About Desmond Tutu
Desmond Tutu (1931-2021) was a South African Anglican bishop and social rights activist renowned for his leadership in the anti-apartheid movement. As the first Black Archbishop of Cape Town and a prominent advocate for nonviolent resistance, Tutu played a pivotal role in promoting racial reconciliation and human rights in South Africa. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his efforts to combat apartheid and later chaired the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which sought to address the injustices of the past.
