About Epictetus
Epictetus (c. 55–135 AD) was a Greek Stoic philosopher who was born a slave in Phrygia and later gained freedom, becoming one of the most prominent figures in the Stoic school of thought. His teachings, which emphasized the importance of personal responsibility, the distinction between what is within our control and what is not, and the practice of virtue, were primarily transmitted through the writings of his student, Arrian, in works such as the "Discourses" and the "Enchiridion." Epictetus's philosophy has had a lasting influence on later thought, particularly in the realms of ethics and personal resilience.
