About Pliny
Pliny the Elder (c. 23-79 AD) was a Roman author, naturalist, and military commander, renowned for his extensive work "Natural History," which sought to compile knowledge about the natural world and human accomplishments. He served in various administrative roles in the Roman Empire, and his curiosity and scholarly pursuits made significant contributions to the understanding of botany, zoology, and the mineral sciences. Pliny perished during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, while attempting to rescue friends and observe the phenomenon.
